Settling in at The Dock, the latest addition to the Kingston Foreshore entertainment precinct, there’s certainly no mistaking the environment you find yourself in. Nestled at the eastern end of the Foreshore’s harbour, The Dock makes the most of its aquatic location.
The bright orange umbrellas that line the outside area are almost the hue of lifejackets. Meanwhile, making your way through the heavy sisal ropes and pier posts that define the space brings you into a bar filled with deep blues and aqua marines. Even the water jugs are two-litre flagons – reminiscent of the grog that would have made its way across the waters in Australia’s early days of European settlement.
Inside, the main bar shows current sport across a number of televisions, with the feature event on the big screen. As a gentle nod to their location on the edge of the Kingston Arts Precinct, one wall is dedicated to The Dock Gallery and shows a rotating selection of artistic works that are available for sale.
The bar presents a couple of rows of gleaming stainless steel taps with a large range from Matilda Bay (and even a select rosé wine) pumping through the lines. Behind the bar are the usual favourites, including a fine range of local reds and whites, as well as a good selection of whiskies.
It wouldn’t be waterside dining without a good dose of Fish & Chips, and The Dock is happy to present their version either grilled or fried. Perhaps try a few plates to share (including boards brimming with dips and olives), or grab one of the delicious mains to keep all to yourself. Will it be the Spiced Quinoa Salad or the Grilled Angus Beef Burger? That’s up to you to decide but, regardless, you’re in safe hands with Chef Jay Marc Prieto steering the ship.
Open seven days a week and perfect for a relaxing drink with friends, or a large function with almost everyone you know, The Dock offers a relaxed vibe that’s perfect for a bit of time down by the water.
