Maiyo is a combination of two words. Mai, the owner Kien Cong Mai’s surname and yo, the yoghurt drink that he wants to make famous throughout Canberra. It also bears resemblance to the Chinese word for ‘welcome’.
Kien Cong Mai and his wife, Vinh Vu have combined their passion and hospitality experience to bring the fresh and exciting flavours of authentic northern Vietnamese cuisine to Canberra.
The menu gleams with culinary culture of Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi. Try the local speciality Bun Cha, in which vermicelli noodles are served with grilled pork in broth and combination greens. The crowning gem of their menu is their spring rolls, stuffed with pork mince, noodles, black mushrooms and fresh veggies, and cooked to a crisp. More classics to love are the selection of hearty Pho, Banh Hoi, Congee, Rice Paper Rolls, Banh Mi and skewers.
Bubble tea lovers looking for a new drink experience will be excited by the selection of yoghurt drinks unique to the Canberra beverage scene. Deliciously healthy, locally-sourced liquid yoghurt is blended with traditional purple sticky rice, oats, a selection of fruits or gelato – perfect to have in or takeaway.
Two new entrants into Australia’s competitive coffee culture are the house special egg coffee and Vietnamese iced coffee, where ice-cream is swapped with condensed milk. The beverage menu extends to a selection of natural healing teas and freshly squeezed juices to quench your thirst.
Maiyo is not just for the lunch crowd. Serving light bites from 12am – 3am on Friday and Saturday, Maiyo is a safe haven for night owls.
Book your next birthday party or function with the warm hospitality of Maiyo. Seating up the 45 people, the space provides a tv screen, sound system and karaoke for an intimate gathering.
For an experience that submerses you into the geniality of culture and authentic street food scene without travelling to the streets of Hanoi, make Maiyo your next destination.
