On Thursday night, Canberra’s crème-de-la-crème will gather to celebrate the very best of our city’s tourism and hospitality industries at The 2015 Canberra Region Tourism Awards.
Set at the National Convention Centre, the night-of-nights is a great way to close off the year and discover which venues and experiences deserve to be recognised in front of their peers.
Last year some of the nation’s most recognisable institutions made the grade, with the National Gallery of Australia, The National Library of Australia and Questacon all walking away with awards. However, it’s about much more than just the big players, with Hotel Realm, Hotel Hotel and Four Winds Winery all among those who took to the stage to collect their prizes.
The biggest winner of the night was Canberra Airport. The 2013 completion of the renovation saw the operation collect the local award for ‘Specialised Tourism Services’, and then go on to repeat the effort on a national scale. In 2014, they were the only business to get a gong at the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards night in Adelaide in April.
This year, the winners from Thursday night’s ceremony will compete against the country’s finest in Melbourne. Taking place in early February, there will be plenty of local winners left with a nervous two-month wait to see if, again, the ACT can compete with the best Australia has to offer.
