Canberra’s legendary electro-indie 3-piece SAFIA and local technology developer Pursuit Technology have collaborated to create a virtual reality experience to accompany SAFIA’s latest single Freakin’ Out to debut at the Art, Not Apart Festival in Canberra.
SAFIA fans can put on a headset and immerse themselves in the interactive journey when the festival hits NewActon on Saturday 17 March.
The viewer is plunged into the chaotic mind of the inhibited artist, exploring the themes of creative frustration and the anxiety inducing pressure of deadlines and scrutiny. You experience, first hand, the bizarre and desperate ideas of the artist, in a colourful yet ominous world.
Viewers also have the opportunity to interact and change each iteration of the experience with cutting edge virtual reality technology.
After that experience you’re sure to be hungry, so hit the stalls for a delectable selection of food by the likes of Morks, Asili, Wandering Woodfired Pizza Oven and Cannoli Bros.
And in a special coup for punters, the festival bar will be run by Bar Rochford – their first event outing.
Another great thing about Art, Not Apart is the interactive installation The Digester – a biochemical machine which is taking food waste from NewActon (A. Baker and Bicicletta) in the lead-up to the event, and converting it into biogas to power the barbecues on the day. The clever cookies at Yarringan have installed the living machine by The Shine Dome.
When the day is done, the afterparties begin! Sound and Fury will ignite NFSA with music, theatre, dance, spoken word and song, in a spectacular party format. And for those that want to see the sun rise, tech-yes is a warehouse party presenting the best of electronic culture in Canberra, featuring world-class music and projections.
