The opening of The Loft at Duxton officially signifies the arrival of Canberra’s newest Wine, Tapas and Cocktail bar. The environment is warm and rustic, the space oozes with chic industrialism and the mood is chilled out, sophisticated and addictive.
Exposed beams, scrubbed wooden floors, tarnished mirrors, cohesive jumble of new and used traditional furnishings, bare bricks and hanging plants give the sense The Loft has been patiently sitting up there for decades, waiting for someone to stumble upon the mysterious space. The red leather menus seep high-class luxury of a by-gone era and the cool marbled table-tops underpin a very boutique atmosphere.
The live music played by the amazing local band SAFIA (The Chess Club) was another addition to an already successful atmosphere. The quaint stage occupies a very open, spacious part of the venue, creating a chilled out sanctuary lit predominately by street-light-glow and single, flickering tea lights.
The Tapas going around was contemporary, refined and delicious and the cocktail list looks to be one of the best in Canberra yet. The wines on offer were heavenly (I’m now particularly attached to Villa Sandi Il Fresco Prosecco) and the beer selection nicely refined.
In short, the launch party was a raging success and has me keen to get back there as soon as possible. The Loft is definitely my top pick for winter hibernation this year.
