Braddon’s favourite florist Moxom & Whitney will have more than flowers on display during the Christmas Shopping at Ori event this Thursday night, 1 December from 5:30pm to 8pm.
Owners Bin and Lou are excited to welcome local photographer Daniel Spellman to exhibit and sell his work for one night only, accompanied by the musical talents of Vendulka.
Daniel Spellman is a Canberra-born photographer whose portfolio encompasses commercial, press and the fine arts. The display, titled Everything Is Fine, is a new photographic exhibition that will be nestled amongst the flowers to entertain Christmas crowds with provocative art and live music.
Using kerosene to ignite, destroy and transform the traditionally serene beauty of the flower, the emotionally charged works suggest themes of violence, change and transformation.
“As the press melts, the pundits scatter and the world reacts in disbelief, a new photographic exhibition lays waste to traditional still life art in explosive fashion. With the shock of Brexit still fresh in the world’s mind, the election of the 45th president has ignited an angry revolution and an unprecedented moral panic,” Daniel explains.
“Reflecting a world collapsing into uncertainty and borrowing titles from the most captivating political showdown in recent history, the images take the traditional values of fine art still life and tear them apart, delighting in the ravaging of the pretty, the destruction of calmness, and the excitement of upheaval. Can the flames give birth to a new kind of beauty, or will they leave only blackened ash?”
The exhibition will also feature live music from rising singer Vendulka Wichta. Hailing from Cooma, the young musical powerhouse is on the verge of a new album release – a definite must-see at the event.
