International electro heavy weights Far East Movement have collaborated with just about everyone capable of lifting a dance floor. The group popping up in so many countries in recent years it was only a matter of time before Canberra was the next stop for the American tourists.
The hype was evident from the outset-scores of girls donned matching ‘G6’ shirts and lined the Academy entrance hours before the main act were due, eager to soak up dance hits from the support DJs.
The local acts didn’t disappoint as some of Canberra’s up and comers took to the decks. Remixes of every genre imaginable had the crowd bouncing along, even Linkin Park making an appearance in a mash-up with an Avicci classic.
Soon it was time for the main act – dressed in glasses and matching white aprons to storm the stage. Armed with keyboards and synth pads, FEM prepared to deliver their latest bass-heavy arsenal of remixes and collabs. Sure enough, the Academy sound system was tested as the outfit kick-started the night with Benni Benasi bootlegs mixed with some lesser-known tracks.
A tribute to the Beastie Boys was a highlight as the night wore on, allowing the crowd the opportunity to Fight for Their Right and sing along with the group’s classic hits. The charismatic front man provided the energy in the small moments of breathing room between dropping heavy tracks.
The packed crowd stuck around making sure they did not miss a beat as they danced into the early hoursOne could only admire the stamina of those who spent hour after ecstatic hour on the dance floor.
The night was a success in every sense and provided music lovers the chance to sweat it out with some of the biggest headliners touring the Australian circuit. Make sure you join the droves in Academy when more artists of Far East Movement’s calibre come down into Canberra.
