Does lazing back to Xavier Rudd, taking a hip-hop class, watching short films and slipping and sliding down a 110m water slide sound like your cup of tea?
If your answer is yes, then we have all the tea you can drink- and it’s called Corinbank. This unusual combination of music, health, culture and chaos gets its name from Corin Forest, which will be host to the 3 day extravaganza.
50 + acts will have you groovin’ in your boots, including Xavier Rudd, Kate Miller-Heidke, The Herd, Epicure, Koolism and local acts like Karton, Dahoohoo and Casual Projects.
Creators Nic, Dan and Mark drew their inspiration for the Corinbank concept from the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada Desert, and the giving philosophy it’s based on.
“Corinbank is a reaction to what we have seen happening on the festival scene over the last 10 years. There is no denying that music festivals have become very corporate machine,” Nic said.
In giving spirits, Corinbank will be allocating proceeds to several environmental charities, as well community projects such as recording studio that can be utilized at Corinbank by musically inclined punters.
“The idea of growing Corinbank is not to grow it as a corporate entity or money making device, but to grow it to achieve a positive outcome. We are providing local artists with the opportunity to be seen on the same stage as national and international acts, and we are making people aware of their environmental impact and all the environmental issues that the world is currently facing.”
Corin Forest seemed like the only choice of venue for Nic and the Corinbank team and their environmentally sensitive ideals.
“Everyone who comes up to the site ‘gets it.’ We wouldn’t be able to have Corinbank at Epic or any other venue in the ACT because it’s about being in pristine surroundings, with the animals all around you. It makes you think about things, like environmental footprints.”
The Corinbank team are giving punters the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in the environment and camp on site, in the leafy depths of Corin Forest.
Workshops will also be conducted by Greening Australia and guided hiking tours to open up the mind and educate about environmental issues.
Nic and the Corinbank team have based the concept of Corinbank around the idea of ‘immersion.’
“We want people to be involved in activities, immersed in art, immersed in community, music, performance and celebration. We are making that happen in a whole lot of different ways too.”
This includes the hug station, the helpful advice tent, the one-stop beauty treatment station, the CircusWork Playground, guided mountain bike tours to a secret swimming hole above a majestic waterfall, guided hiking trips to Square Rock, 110m water slide entertainment, yoga classes with qualified practitioners, bird watching and seed collecting with Greening Australia, art classes with Al Phemister, ‘Music Master Classes’ with Canberra’s finest musos, feature film screenings, interactive art installations and more!
