Canberra has celebrated the historic Yes vote with a street party to end all street parties!
Even Chief Minister Andrew Barr had a well-earned beer to commemorate the announcement that Aussies voted an overwhelming Yes to marriage equality, with 61.6 percent of almost 12 million voters supporting a change to the marriage laws. Mr Barr was snapped in his cheers moment by Sky News reporter Lyndal Curtis.

It was the announcement that stopped a nation, as the Australian Bureau of Statistics confirmed the Yes decision at 10am.
To celebrate this historic day, part of Lonsdale Street was closed off on Wednesday night for a party to honour the vote.
The Official Yes Campaign hosted the celebration, with Hopscotch bar leading the charge to make sure Braddon was a rainbow – organisers even chalked a multi-coloured crossing, the symbol of the Yes camp.
Hopscotch Bar re-badged the beer taps to ‘Yes’, ‘Si’, ‘Ja’ and ‘Oui’, and offered an ‘Equality’ cocktail invented specifically for the party, featuring equal parts alcohol and the rim of the glass encrusted in Hundreds and Thousands.
