Of late Canberra’s bar scene, and in fact entire entertainment offering has seen a dramatic overhaul. New trends, launches, exhibitions and themed nights seem to be popping up weekly, and there are a few that really deserve the hype. One such venue is Bellabar, set to launch on Friday March 16, and then opening to the public on Friday March 23.
The aptly named bar looks and feels amazing. Taking up residence at the famous (or perhaps infamous) stomping ground of the former Bobby McGees, it promises to deliver fantastic nights out. However, the new venue will better cater to the original crowd’s preferences as they stand today.
Bellabar has been built with a real consideration of those who are looking for a social night out. There are plenty of small intimate spaces, as well as open lounge areas. The décor has a real sense of class and intimacy, combining the best of romantic tones and homely comforts. There is a wide, open bar ideal for quick service, although, if you are lucky enough to attend the launch waiting at the bar wont be an issue; rumors of table service abound. Whilst this will not be a standard offering from the venue they do promise to deliver a level of service that has yet to be seen in Canberra.
As an impressive addition to the bar team, internationally acclaimed cocktail guru Jared Thibault has come on board. He has worked at the likes of the Riviera Resort in Palm Springs, Beverly Hill’s Avalon Hotel, and was the winner of the prestigious Desert Bartender of the Year in 2009. Thibault is one of the most impressive mixologists on the scene today. He has designed a cocktail menu that marries vintage delights with seductive new combinations for the bar, and will be premiering his selection during the launch.
The Bellabar launch is set to be one of the most impressive nights out this year. The fully catered event includes samples from the menu, access to an impressive wine list, and of course a multitude of some of the best cocktails you will ever sample. Hopeful guests can register via facebook.com/thebellabar. The event has been made possible thanks to Carlton United Breweries, Coca Cola Amatil, Champagne Pommery and Rogue Wines.
