Legends of Aussie rock are screaming their way to Canberra for a show inspired by, among all things, a book.
Blood Sweat & Beers brings together the mavericks of home-grown rock, including current and former members of AC/DC, The Angels, Rose Tattoo and Screaming Jets.
The concert is inspired by a book written by Murray Engleheart on one of Australia’s longest established independent record labels, Albert Productions.
The book examines the years when Rose Tattoo became the loudest, most threatening band to stalk the Earth, when The Angels were Australia’s number one live drawcard who turned venues into jam-packed paramilitary rallies, when global juggernaut AC/DC took the first steps towards legendary status, and when Screaming Jets rose to stardom on the back of belting hits like Better.
Author Murray Engleheart says it was an honour to write the book.
“Firstly writing Blood Sweat and Beers, the everything louder than everything else history of Oz rock, then having that title adopted by a legendary bunch of blokes for a national tour that will see them blast out some of the greatest rock ‘n’ roll ever made. Scripts don’t come no better than that,” Murray says.
The four-part show blisters over 2.5 hours and covers the smash hits from these iconic bands.
Opening the show is Jim Hilbun on vocals/bass, powering through a set of The Angels best-known classics. Then, Angry Anderson hits the stage for an explosive Rose Tattoo set, before Grant Walmsley on vocals/guitar blasts out all the hits of the Screaming Jets including the instant classic he wrote, ‘Better’. The show closes with Angry returning to the stage for a pulverising set of AC/DC favourites with Mark Evans on bass.
Blood Sweat & Beers will take over The Basement on Friday 13 July.
