Anticipation ran high as scores shuffled out of the rain to bounce along to up-and-coming synth-pop group Clubfeet on Friday night. The five piece outfit are already well on the way to securing their place among electro heavy hitters Cut Copy, and return to the capital on the back of latest album release Heirs & Graces.
Leading the night on a mellow note was Canberra indie act SAFIA. Relying on keyboards and drum-pads as vocalist Ben Woolner breezed through ambient tracks Mercury and Listen to Soul, Listen to Blues.
Next to take the stage, and a definite highlight of the night, was PANAMA. The Sydney based group were charged with lifting the crowd a notch and did not disappoint as the electro tracks fired. Lead vocalist and keys player Jarrah McCleary provided most of the energy as the set wore on. As predicted- Magic proved the stand out for the set and had couples funnelling off to find valuable room to move.
As the support acts took a seat amongst the audience and the lights dimmed, the raucous applause and cheering from the crowd welcomed Clubfeet onto the stage. Cheering soon turned to dancing as the group dived into tracks from Heirs & Graces.
The acoustics of Zierholz were at their best for songs Everything You Wanted and indie influenced My Shadow, as the electro outfit commanded the stage with laid back charisma. On a freezing capital night you couldn’t help but think of summer while listening to the group, the easy-going and eager nature with which the audience responded was a reflection of that.
Winding to a close with infectious hits Cape Town, and Heartbreak, the audience was finally left to brave the cold on a resounding high. Clubfeet and the support acts proved that quality electro pop music is lifting through the ranks of the Australian music scene, and are definitely worthwhile for a look on their inevitable future tours through the capital.
