Canberra’s birthday party, Celebrate in the Park, is set to be the best yet, with some of the biggest names in Australian music taking to Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park on Monday 10th March, the Canberra Day long weekend.

Going into the 95th year with a bang, a handful of Australian celebrities will be taking to stage 88 for the birthday bonanza.

Human Nature, one of Australia’s biggest-selling and best-known musical acts will headline the spectacular day of entertainment, that will also feature pop diva Ricki-Lee and legends of Australian rock Mental as Anything.

“These fantastic national acts are being supported by some of our best local bands,” Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope said.

“These include the infectious beats of The Andi and George Band, award-winning blues band Chase the Sun, covers band Low Key, and one of Canberra’s favourite artists, Ashleigh Mannix.”

The Little Big Top, part of the Children’s Big Birthday Party will feature performances by Spot, Fifi and Bumble, the Koala Brothers and Jay Laga’aia from Playschool.

Kids will really feel like they are at a giant birthday party, with balloons, amusement rides, activities, games and first-class entertainment in the Little Big Top.

“It’s a day the whole family can enjoy, with activities and entertainment designed to appeal to just about everyone.”

“As we count down to our 2013 centenary year, the excitement will build, and the 2008 event will be a part of that, with a real party atmosphere in the park.”

Celebrate in the Park will boast a variety of food, snacks and drinks, including the “Cellar-brate” marquee featuring a number of local wineries.

Canberrans can also share in the city’s giant birthday cake and enjoy an exciting fireworks finale over Stage 88.
