When I think Indian Food I think butter chicken, creamy, spicy, melt in your mouth butter chicken. Without having another thought, I’m on the phone ordering two serves with rice and naan so that there’ll be leftovers for tomorrow. Thank god there are a lot of places to provide my favourite Indian food and many other dishes besides those. Here are a few of the best ones.
I have a special spot in my heart and stomach for food trucks, due to their small spaces and highly convenient packaging, they have had to be innovative in every aspect of their business especially the food. Binny’s Kathitto in the Hamlet do some great things with eggs and yoghurt and wrap everything up in roti for some tasty and portable Indian food and of course they bring the spice.
Delhi Six has been providing the capital with delicious Indian food since 2010. This established restaurant is the work of centuries of knowledge mixed with handfuls of spices and fresh produce in every dish. They have the classics, including my favourite butter chicken, as well as chicken tikka, cheesy naan and lamb rogan josh to round out an evening fix.
Over at the Copper Chimney the guest is god. As great as their motto is, it may not even be the best part of the restaurant. It might be the masala all the way from India, it might be the curry paste made fresh and the highly experienced chef Manoj. Or it could be the banquet with favourite dishes, including vindaloo and samosas for only $35.00 a head.
Blu Ginger brings together the old and the new in some mouthwatering dishes, refreshing and reinvigorating classic Indian food. Catering to all diets with several vegetarian and gluten free items on the menu, slow cooked lentils and flavour simmered into lamb for so long the already cooked lamb begs to be eaten just to get out of being cooked for longer. Blu Ginger needs to be tasted to be understood.
With all the Indian in Canberra, flavours and styles, pounds of masala being eaten every day, Butter chicken will always be my favourite and luckily I can get it at any one of these fabulous restaurants. But which one?
