Cirque Du Soleil ‘Quidam’ is set to kick off this weekend in Canberra to delight an audience of all ages. OutInCanberra caught up with Ardee Dionsio or ‘Target’ to chat about the performance.

Welcome to Canberra. Have you had a chance to get out and look around?

First of all, thank you for welcoming me. Aside from the Novotel and the Venue I have had a look around the downtown area and the city. The first thing that hit me when I got off the plane was the weather. Flying from Vienna in Austria where it is currently winter was a very good change, the weather here is amazing, I like it here.

Playing Target looks like a lot of fun. What’s been the biggest thing about performing with Cirque du Soleil?

For me the greatest thing about working with Cirque is the travelling, being in front of a range of audiences is amazing. But I think the biggest and best thing for me, and the thing I will remember most about my experience with Cirque will be working with and learning from such amazing people and performers.

How much of Ardee – your personality – comes through on stage?

It’s a little hard to say, I think that Target and Ardee are pretty much the same character. If you ask anyone who is close to me they would just say ‘that is Ardee up there.’ My version of Target (there have been many more before me,) that people see on stage is very much a happy-go-lucky character. I try to make Target a playful character by incorporating personality traits like that of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell on stage.

Who else should we be amazed by in Quidam?

All of my colleagues are amazing performers, I can’t choose just one! They are the best of the best of where they came from.

What’s your dream gig?

Before Quidam I was working as a contemporary dancer in Austria, so my dream gig would be teaching dance here and there as well. Choreography is my specialty, so ideally I would be doing that; but I am very lucky with my current position, ‘Cirque’ is the best company to work for as a performer.
