Set on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin, Walt & Burley is the first bar to open with truly expansive views of Canberra’s magnificent centrepiece.

As a jewel in the crown of the Kingston Foreshore precinct, Walt & Burley has a special responsibility – to deliver a community service to locals within the expanding precinct, as well as providing a place for all Canberrans to come and enjoy the lake.

Walt & Burley achieves both remits with ease. Firstly, the easy, casual style of service means this is an easy place to wander in for an after-five refresher among familiar faces, or pop down for coffee and much-needed bacon & egg roll on a Saturday morning.

Secondly, Walt & Burley respects the lake as the property of everyone, and as such seeks to engage with customers as they come down to enjoy the view. It might be to spend a relaxing afternoon with friends taking in the views, or having a quick break as the kids play in the nearby park.

The big screens show off this week’s big match – perfect while you’re kicking back with one of the eleven draught beers and ciders available on tap. There are plenty more in the fridge, as well as an extensive wine list with familiar selections from across Australia (as well as a few local favourites!).

In fact, wine would be perfect for relaxing by the fire and looking out through the large windows to the view of the lake. The only thing better would be a few tasty offerings from the menu, which caters for small sharing plates all the way through to a feast with friends in the dining area. As a bonus, you can also grab some fish and chips from the takeaway window, should you want to relax down by the water.

All-in-all, Walt & Burley is a friendly and approachable pub with a close focus on fine food and wine – just exactly what you want while relaxing by the water.
