Canberra has a vibrant calendar of local and national music acts to look forward to this month! Here’s a look at a few of our favourite venues and their gigs on offer.

Academy Club

Academy is having its first RnB take-over on 8 July, featuring DMC world champ DJ i-Dee. Throughout his career, i-Dee’s talents have made waves both in the USA and across international waters catching the attention of television, radio and press. He’s appeared on MTV, HBO, VH1 and iHeartRadio.

Australian producer What So Not brings his show back to Canberra on Friday 17 July at A-Cadz. Fresh from his appearance at GTM and recent global success at Coachella and EDC Las Vegas, What So Not continues to dominate 2016.

Transit Bar

Arriving at transit on the 13 July on their Oh My national tour is Australian duo Boo Seeka. In less than 12 months, they’ve produced two massive singles, embarked on two European tours and have been nominated for the Triple J Unearthed Artist of the Year Award.

Transit also hosts Canberran Jack Biilmann on the 16th. Jack launches his new single and clip Own Worst Enemy on the night, also featuring The Bronze Whalers and Sara Flint.

ANU Bar

Arguably Australia’s best individual hip-hop artist Seth Sentry (featured in image) rolls into Canberra with his national tour 1969 Campaign Trail in full steam. Performing on 17 July, if you haven’t heard or seen much of him, Seth’s live shows are enough to make you an instant fan.

Phoenix Bar

The Fuelers perform on Thursday 8 July at Phoenix. A rich visual and theatrical experience, the band presents a skewed take on gameshow themes, using painted props such as The Wheel of Fate, The Beer Cactus or The Chicken Pump.

Canberra based alternative rock four-piece Moaning Lisa perform on the 21st. Inspired by ‘90s legends such as the Pixies and Sleater-Kinney, the band has been growing in stature in Canberra over the last year with some awesome vibes.

Smith’s Alternative

On 23 July, Smith’s Alternative hosts The Lord Byron 5, a local band featuring Craig and Simone Dawson. The LB5 performs selected poetical works of the eccentric romantic poet Lord Byron in an energetic and compelling quasi-musical stage act. Some dark, some beautiful, the poems are transformed into an intense theatre-restaurant performance that isn’t to be missed!

The Playhouse

The Simon and Garfunkel Story arrives direct from West End on the 16th. Perhaps my favourite band biography; the musical tells the fascinating tale of how two young boys from Queens, New York went on to become the world’s most successful music duo of all time.
