As the Oscar nominations are out, people are reflecting on the year that was. Fantastic films from Dunkirk to Wonder Women to the surprise hit Get Out have gifted our screens, but now the question is what will be the hits of 2018?
Here is a list of the top ten movies to get excited about that are coming out in 2018:
- Marvel
Marvel has one of their biggest years ever coming in 2018, starting off with the highly anticipated Black Panther, whose reviews are saying it is “one of the best Marvel movies ever.” Followed by this is the biggest Marvel movie of all time (so far) with Avengers: Infinity War hitting screens in April. Marvel doesn’t stop there however, with Ant-Man and the Wasp, Deadpool 2 and Sony’s Venom all set to be released.
- Aquaman
Switching codes to DC, Aquaman is also coming out in 2018. After the success of Wonder Women and the backlash of Justice League, this film could be the make or break for DC. With a stellar cast at the helm, including Aussie Nicole Kidman, let’s hope this movie gets DC back on track.
- The Return of the Wizarding World
Later in the year, we will see the return of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. The movie is set for a November release and has a high level of anticipation. With Jude Law playing a young Professor Dumbledore and Johnny Depp playing Grindelwald, Potterverse fans cannot wait until November to see it.
- Mary Poppins Returns
Switching things up a little to the return of a classic character, more than half a century after our first glimpse of Mary Poppins, now she returns with Emily Blunt playing the titular role. The film is set in 1930s Depression-era London and is drawn from the wealth of material in PL Travers’ additional seven books.
- Creed 2
After the critical success of the first film, Creed 2 is bringing back the entire cast, along with a legend in the Rocky Franchise – Dolph Lundgren is back playing Captain
Ivan Drago. It is rumoured that the character will have a son who will fight Adonis Creed.
- Sicario 2
It seems this year is the year of sequels, with Sicario 2 being released June 2018. The movie was created off the back of a huge cult following after its 2015 release. Critics loved the realistic crime drama and the movie was up for several award nominations. Sicario 2 is without star Emily Blunt but Josh Brolin and Benincio Del Toro are reprising their roles.
- Incredibles 2
The movie every Millennial has been waiting for, Incredibles 2, June 14 2018. Save the Date! This movie has been one of the most anticipated cartoon returns since Toy Story. Don’t be surprised if the movie has more 20-year-olds in it than kids!
- Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Four years after the destruction of the Jurassic World theme park, Owen Grady, and Claire Dearing return to the island to save the remaining dinosaurs from a volcano that’s about to erupt. This film is billed as double the action and double the adventure of its predecessor.
- The Han Solo movie
Although there have been a few mishaps with the production of the latest Star Wars film, nobody can deny the anticipation surrounding the films. The iconic Han Solo character is something Star Wars fans are very passionate about. So, one can only hope that Alden Ehrenreich (playing the young Solo) can smash the role.
- First Man
Last, but certainly not least, is the drama/biography First Man, the story of Neil Armstrong AKA the first man on the man. The story is in the safe hands of Academy Award-winning director Damien Chazelle (LaLa Land, Whiplash, and 10 Cloverfield Lane). Chazelle has already cast Ryan Gosling, Claire Foy and Kyle Chandler in unknown roles.
One thing is for sure, 2018 is going to be a huge year for movies!
