There’s nothing better than finishing up on a Friday with the whole weekend ahead. With The Brumbies’ season on the line, GIO Canberra Stadium is the place to be as The Western Force vie for one of the last spots in the Super 15 Finals. Will The Brumbies prevail? We’ve cast our eye over the key points of this week’s final home game to identify our team’s chances.

The Old Enemy

Well, the unthinkable has happened.

Somehow, against all of their finest traditions, the NSW Waratahs find themselves at the top end of the Super 15 ladder at the right end of the season.

After thoroughly demolishing the Highlanders on Sunday afternoon, the ‘Tahs have collected their bonus point and soared seven points ahead of second-place (and fast-finishing) Canterbury Crusaders.

So, what now for The Brumbies? Well, quite a lot it would seem. Things are very, very tight in their part of the draw.

The Return Match
We’re at home against The Western Force this weekend – a team we safely saw off in Week 3 with a solid win over in Perth. This time, the Force have to come onto our home ground and play in Canberra and, while the last match saw us lose our inspirational captain, David Pocock (again!) over the course of the season The Brumbies have gelled into a tight unit that can easily account for the visitors from across The Nullabor. With possibly the last appearance of Ben Mowen and Clyde Rathbone, the boys will certainly give it their all.

The Maths
A solid in with a bonus point – certainly not out of the question for this weekend – will see The Brumbies finish (40pts) on 45 points – not enough to break into the top of the draw.

The key to maintaining a spot in the finals will be seeing off The Force (40pts) as well as the hoping The Chiefs fail to achieve a substantial win over The Auckland Blues (36pts) at Eden Park. This match kicks off at 5.30pm on Saturday so by the time the two sides take the field at GIO Canberra Stadium, the task ahead should be very clear. Will The brumbies manage to secure a home final?

The Honey Badger
Sadly, this game may be the last we see of ‘The Honey Badger’. Truly the excitement machine of the Western Force and The Wallabies, Nick Cummins has become a crowd favourite over the last 18 months with his somewhat straight-talking interviews and blistering speed on the wing. While it will be a shame to send him home with a loss, we know what The Brumbies need to do!
