Our favourite local twilight fashion market, Hustle&Scout, is celebrating it’s birthday with a change in location, more stall holders, designers and an after-party!
The fashion market is moving to a historical building never before used for a public event, Hangar #47 at Fairbairn. The market’s move from NewActon to Fairbairn was prompted after huge crowds filled the NewActon Precinct at the July market, leaving little room for visitors to shop or find a car park.
The new venue, Hangar #47, was built in 1940 as part of the Royal Australian Air Force base, and remains one of The Canberra Airport’s most treasured historical structures. The space, which is over 3,000 square metres, still features original roof beaming, windows and bay lighting, but has been restored and maintained since the WWII period when it housed squadrons from the Netherlands East Indies Air Force. The new location will provide visitors with 2,000 free car parks, ATMs, a magnificent view of the runway and lots of aircraft activity. – Awesome!
A total of 53 designers and collectors will showcase at the this first birthday celebratory market – a substantial rise compared with the modest 22 stalls founder Tegan McAuley featured at her very first market. ‘Support for the market has been incredible from the beginning – I think people are quickly becoming more interested in buying handmade and local, and the inclusion of food has taken the event to a whole new level’.
That’s right, The Forage food market will also be moving with Hustle&Scout to the hangar, showcasing over 25 food and beverage stalls including new vendors such as Bentspoke Brewery, Nookie Espesso Bar, B St Bakery, Cantina Movil Mexican and old favourites such as Mr Papa and Bing Bang.
Expect a full entertainment line-up starring local musicians, Dylan Hekimian (indie/roots), The Feraude Trio (jazz/electronic) and DJ Ave Nocturna (funky house). The event will also feature its signature roaming models, a live music lounge and tiki bar, photo booth, and the AFL grand final will also be televised.

The Chop Shop are throwing the official Hustle&Scout After-Party/First Birthday Bash. On Saturday 27 September after the market at 8:00pm. Entry is free and will feature special Hustle&Scout cocktails and live music!
