Have you ever been keen to perform a dance routine with your favourite sports stars? Have you wanted to score a goal against a Canberra United player, skeet, shoot or try and give it a go with a paddle in a dragon boat? Would your kids be keen to compete in a tug-of-war with Canberra’s sporting elite? Have you peered through a window at a gym and thought what it would be like to be part of a Sh’bam or Body Combat class? Well now is your chance?
Sport for Women Day is being held on Sunday, 1st April 2012 at Stage 88, Regatta Point, Canberra. All Canberran’s are welcome to come and celebrate a healthy, active and balanced lifestyle.
Sport for Women Day is an event for the whole family and the highlight of the day will be all of Canberra’s school children come together to perform a fantastic dance routine, which everyone can join in. The day is also about raising the profile for Australia’s female athletes and building the gap between men and women in the sports industry.
On the day, sporting stars and celebrities from all over the country will be there to demonstrate their talents and provide expert tuition for all. There will be more than 25 sports offering interactive demonstrations such as rugby, football, basketball, shooting, netball and cricket. There will also be autograph sessions with the elite athletes, with Canberra United and Touch Football Australia hosting tournaments throughout the day.
Free health checks, massages and diet advice will be available from the Health Huts and you can go and say hello and farewell to come of Australia’s 2012 female Olympians.
If you don’t fancy taking part in one of free Les Mills exercise classes that the day has on offer, then why don’t you bring the family down, relax and soak up the atmosphere? A great variety of food and refreshments will be available all day!
As for the kids, they can enjoy activities such as sports demonstrations, animalates and jumping castles; it will be a non-stop day of action.
The event is free, with an option of a gold coin donation going to Sport for Women’s charity partner, Ovarian Cancer Australia.
