If you’re after something more substantial than bar snacks, the Summer Menu from the Fig Tree Restaurant offers some great dishes to share with friends.
The House Smoked Ocean Trout is a fantastic way to kick off the meal. A delicately flavoured fish pate with lavosh bread to accompany, the salmon roe gives delicious salty bursts of flavour. The fresh and light dish pairs beautifully with the Frontbencher cocktail. An Asian-influenced cocktail from the Unwind Menu, the Frontbencher is an expertly-mixed combination of lychee liquor, Malibu, topped with champagne and garnished with a kaffir lime leaf.
A crowd pleaser is the Seared Scallops, which is also perfect for those with gluten intolerances. The scallops portray the requisite caramelisation on the outside and the melt-in-your-mouth tenderness on the inside. Textures and flavours have been accounted for in this dish with the grapefruit, caviar and Jerusalem artichoke crisp accents.
No one would blame you if you took one look at the scallops and decided not to share the dish after all. A better sharing option would be the Charcuterie Board – dried and cured selection of meats, house pickles and sourdough. The intensely flavoured gourmet meats are precisely sliced for maximum satisfaction. The Backbencher cocktail, a seductive rum-based cocktail topped with a fragrant cinnamon stick (also from the Unwind menu), boasts a more complex flavour profile to keep up with the stronger flavours of the Charcuterie Board.
