Green Beer or Guinness have been the two options for St Patrick’s Day celebrations in past years… but not this year. No, this year we are shaking things up a bit and you should too! Add these six green themed cocktails to your St Patty’s day and feel the luck of the Irish this year!
Green Fairy
You could probably just pour yourself a glass of the ‘Green Fairy’ and feel on-theme. But let’s be safe and make it into a cocktail instead. Combine equal parts absinthe and water, lots of lemon juice, a sprinkle of sugar and a dash of Angostura Bitters – shake over ice, and there you have it the perfect green cocktail for a spirited night on the dance floor.
Appletini
When I first had one of these I thought ‘How Sex In the City!’ Appletini’s are delicious and are probably one of the best decisions you can make for a green beverage this Thursday. Simply shake equal parts apple schnapps and vodka over ice, add a cute green apple garnish and BAM! Drink up!
Mojito
Everyone has their own preference but, for the sake of this article I’ve decided that you should make a Bacardi Mojito (the best option in my opinion.) Fill up a high ball glass (or if you’re a uni student grab that one mug you own) with ice, lime and mint, drizzle in some sugar syrup, add a shot (or two) or Barcardi and fill the remainder of the glass with soda.
Japanese Slipper
Now, what kind of woman would I be if I didn’t add some sort of Midori cocktail to this list? I know that the name isn’t ‘Irish Slipper’ but hey… it’s green… so it counts! The thing to remember with this one is 30-30-30. To create this masterpiece simply combine 30ml Midori, 30ml Cointreau and 30ml lemon juice and garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Grasshopper
The Grasshopper is both a cocktail and a dessert – because it has cream in it! To make this creamy drink simply add equal parts crème de menthe, white crème de cacao and light cream. Indulge a little this St Patty’s day!
Mint Julep … with Kiwi
You can’t go wrong with a Mint Julep. However, I really like to mix up this classic with a few slice of kiwi fruit. This one is not traditionally green but with copious amounts of mint and kiwi in the glass it’s definitely on-theme. Add a finger of bourbon whisky to an old-fashion looking glass. Stir in some mint, sugar syrup, mix it up and throw in a few slices of kiwi.
