Brazilian music legend Sergio Mendes is heading to Canberra Theatre next April, as part of his Greatest Hits Tour.

Sergio is one of Brazil’s most internationally successful musicians, with a career spanning more than five decades. His signature blend of latin jazz, bossa nova and pop-infused Brazilian music has seen him rightfully earn three Grammy Awards, as well as an Oscar nomination for his work on the 3D-animated film ‘Rio’.

Mendes has recorded more than 35 albums over his lengthy musical career, many of which have reached gold or platinum status. His early single Mas Que Nada is credited as being the first song sung entirely in Portuguese to hit the US Billboard Pop chart.

This will be Sergio’s first time in Australia in over a decade, and he will be bringing a stellar 8-piece band along for the tour. This show will cater to music fans of all ages, and feature all the classics that launched Sergio into international superstardom, such as ‘One Note Samba/Spanish Flea’, ‘Never Gonna Let You Go’, ‘Girl from Ipanema’, and ‘The Look of Love’.

Mendes’ knack for innovation and versatility has ensured his sound has always remained current. In 2006, he released his Timeless CD, which was produced in collaboration with a range of popular artists, including John Legend, The Black Eyed Peas, and Justin Timberlake.

“For me, it is a great pleasure to go back to Australia, a country that I admire so much and that has always treated me and my band so well,” Sergio said

Ticketmaster presales for this show will be available from 9am, Wednesday December 6, at http://www.ticketmaster.com.au. General release tickets will be available from Friday December 8.
