The new café and sports bar venue located in the Inner North, Pick Up Stix Kitchen & Bar, is open and ready to rumble! This unique setting, nestled within the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham is a hotspot to keep on your radar for fun food and sports entertainment!
Pick Up Stix gives you the best of both worlds, by providing a casual sports bar feeling with a pool table, bar area and large sports screen, while also capturing the energetic café lifestyle and culture in a different unique setting.
Serving pub style food with a unique twist as well as yummy healthy options, this place has it all. Manager, Dan Conroy, says it’s a great place to pop in for a refreshing smoothie or quality coffee after the gym or for a pre/post Raiders or Brumbies game beer at GIO Stadium just up the road!
First impression, the area is spacious, welcoming and clearly takes a traditional sports venue to a new level! Fitted with a feature chandelier made of hockey sticks, large opening glass doors, and serving breakfast until 4.30pm, Pick Up Stix is perfect if you’re seeking a new local.
The menu contains exciting and fresh options, which are made from locally sourced ingredients and with the help from an onsite herb garden. If you weren’t already impressed, everything, and we mean everything, is made in-house, from the pizza bases and pastries to the tortilla chips!
As we headed through the doors, the attentive staff greeted us and shortly after we were served the scrumptious and delightfully crisp Potato Cakes. The mouthwatering fried balls of potato are filled with cheese and fresh herbs, and in my opinion, the perfect breaky meal! Paired with asparagus, fried eggs, corn salsa and crispy prosciutto shards, this dish makes for an original and healthy take on a brekkie.
Next we were treated with the Pumpkin and Chorizo Pizza. Forget about boring and minimalistic pizzas with this one! The balsamic glazed encrusted pizza was stacked with delicious roquette, parmesan cheese and, of course, crispy pumpkin and chorizo, which made for a very satisfied customer! The balsamic glaze gave the dish a pleasant sweet infusion for the taste buds, which paired effortlessly with the other elements.
Pick Up Stix offers nachos with a twist on the classic dish we all know and love . You really have to see and taste them for yourself! The Nachos Our Way takes the traditional Mexican dish to another dimension. The mixture of rustic braised beef, crunchy seasoned tortilla chips, sour cream, fresh avocado, corn salsa and chipotle aioli is enough to have you mopping up the remains. The shards of pointed crisp tortilla chips upon the mountain of cheesy, meaty goodness was impressive, to say the least, and tasted just as good as it looked!
If mushrooms are your forte, the last dish we were spoilt with, is the one we recommend for you. The Field Mushrooms is filled with an abundant flavour and texture. From the gooey poached egg to the herb butter and seasoned greens, which were stacked on top of an enormous mushroom, made for a perfect mixture. A beetroot humus with balsamic is served on the side of this dish as well as healthy grainy toast – it’s a surprisingly hearty dish to kick off the day.
