A new phenomenon since Regina George introduced wearing pink on Wednesdays, we are now drinking pink on Wednesdays. Italian restaurant chain Vapiano have taken out the feeling of guilt from a mid-week carb and cocktail fix by turning it into a way to raise much needed funds.
The nation-wide pizza and pasta haven introduced Drink Pink Wednesdays in February this year, by teaming up with charity Share the Dignity to raise money for Australian women affected by homelessness, poverty and domestic violence. The initiative rolled out in all seven restaurants nation-wide, including our Canberra City store, and has raised $36,580 directly to the charity.
It’s simple. Visit Vapiano on a Wednesday night after 5pm, order one of their charming $5 pink cocktails with a main meal and 100% of proceeds from that thirst-quencher go to charity. Over 7000 people so far this year have already devoured pizza, pasta and cocktails in support.
“There are more than 100,000 Australian women and teenage girls who go every month without female sanitary products because they cannot afford them.” Says Rochelle Courtenay, the founder and managing director behind Share the Dignity.
The money raised from Drink Pink Wednesdays is going directly towards installing #Pinkbox Vending machines around the country in women’s shelters and schools so no women go without these bare essentials.
The team at Vapiano are running Drink Pink Wednesdays until the end of the year in an effort to double the figures so raise your glasses!
