They don’t like Vegemite … or broccoli or Brussels sprouts… but they love to cook up a storm with virtually any other ingredient. We’re talking about super competitive Gina and Anne, the Greek mother-and-daughter team who are representing Canberra on this year’s My Kitchen Rules. The 2015 season launches Monday, 2 February, after the tennis.
Gina, the mum, says she started cooking at an early age with her own mum warning: “If you don’t learn to cook, you’ll never get married.” She concentrated on Greek cuisine before stumbling across a Margaret Fulton cookbook… and her cooking horizon expanded.
Gina and Anne are like two peas in a pod and spend hours cooking together at home. They love Pete and Manu, although, if secret be told, find it easiest to get Manu to relax and laugh.
And their plans for the Capital? They’re not giving too much away, but are bringing something totally new to Canberra in the next few months. “It’s not a restaurant, but something Canberra hasn’t seen yet,” says Anna. “We have big plans for the food industry here. Restaurants. Plural. I want an empire.”
And what word do these contestants use to describe themselves on MKR? ‘Villians.’
Don’t miss our local ladies on My Kitchen Rules from Monday 2 February at 7:30pm on Prime7.
