When Andrew & Emelia represented the ACT on the 2014 season of My Kitchen Rules, Canberrans couldn’t help but fall in love with the bubbly couple. Although their time on the show was short, the duo have been able to pour their considerable energy into a number of food-related projects across our city in the year since.
The great news is that on Thursday 28 May Sage Dining Rooms plays host to a fabulous GourMay event featuring Andrew and Emelia. Featuring a four-course surprise degustation (based on the couple’s favourite home recipes) this will be an exciting dining experience.
“We’re thrilled!” says 31-year-old Emelia. “We’ve got so many recipes we’ve wanted to try in front of an audience, and now we’ve got the chance to work with an amazing chef to see what they can really become.”
The Chef in question is Sage’s Damian Brabender, who has made quite a stir since arriving in Canberra earlier this year. Damian was Executive Chef at Australia’s only six-star hotel (Emirates Wolgan Valley) and also worked under the three-Michelin Star chef, Pierre Kauffman – so he’s got an incredible range of skills to bring to the table.
So, what might this mean for the dishes created by the two TV stars?
“I’m not going to do too much,” smiles Brabender, “But I’m definitely keen to explore their recipes. Once I identify a key element or idea, I love to really push it to see what can happen. Who knows where we will end up?”
This arrangement can only create a fascinating interplay between the busy kitchen and Andrew and Emelia throughout the night. Diners will be able to hear about the genesis of each dish, as well as see what happens when it is given the special Sage treatment.
For those who are keen to get an insight into what happens behind-the-scenes on a top-rating cooking show, this is your opportunity to discover what it’s like to cook on camera. “Ask us anything you want,” bubbles Emelia enthusiastically. “It was an amazing time for us, so we’re more than happy to talk about it!”
