You probably queued up for stunning light of Turner and felt the energy of Toulouse Lautrec’s world, but there’s a whole new sensory experience at the National Gallery of Australia with the exhibition James Turrell: A Retrospective.

The retrospective of the American artist at the NGA is set to change the way you feel about light and space. On show until 8 June 2015, this is an experience not to be missed.

Since the opening of the Skyspace, Within without at the NGA in 2010, people have had a taste of James Turrell’s monolithic works. Hundreds of thousands of people have made their way into the installation to experience his use of light and how we perceive the sky, especially during the daily dawn and dusk light cycles.

This is what Turrell does: he challenges your senses by changing the way you perceive space, colour and, in some pieces, time itself. Sound strange? Well it is, but this is also something you have to see for yourself.

Such is the power of James Turrell’s works, that the Gallery has seen return visitors bringing new people along with them to see the extraordinary scope of the works in the exhibition.
