During winter we turn to the cinema for entertainment. The warm, relaxing atmosphere invokes a-time honoured tradition to get away from the cold and miserable weather outside.
As the warmer weather trickles in and the days get a little longer, why not celebrate the seasonal change by bringing your favourite movie moments outside? This is the experience promised by the annual IMB Sunset Cinema Canberra.
Sunset Cinemas will set up at the National Botanic Gardens from Friday 11 November until Saturday 17 December. While getting together with a group of friends to enjoy an outdoor movie is one thing, experiencing film favourites in the serene surroundings of the Northern Eucalypt Lawn in a natural bush amphitheatre has the makings for a night not to be forgotten.
With a line-up of classics, kid favourites, new releases and must-sees, Sunset Cinema has something for everyone. Highlights of the season include opening night on Friday 11 November with a screening of The Girl on the Train and Hacksaw Ridge on Saturday 3 December – one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer!
A fantastic edition this year is the Movie Buff Pass for a summer-long love affair with Sunset Cinemas. Simply head online, count the films that you’d love to watch under the stars and purchase a pass that covers the lot – keep in mind that the more you buy, the more you save!
There is also a great selection of onsite food and drinks including The One food van and Cartel Food Truck. Ice-cream, Cobs Popcorn and a full movie-worthy snack bar will also be available to tantalise your taste buds. The MadFish Wine Bar will be serving a great range of premium West Australian wines along with 4 Pines craft beer, Brookvale cider, soft drink, juice and water. So don’t pop any alcohol in your picnic bag as it’s strictly non-BYO.
For total comfort you can hire beanbags or backrests starting at just $4. But your own picnic blankets, beanbags and pillows are also encouraged for the ultimate outdoor sunset cinema experience.
