Help from the Underground is back again for this year and is set to be a big one. The op-shop fashion parade will raise vital funds for the 1,785 people identified as being homeless in Canberra and will be held on Wednesday 12th June.

This event will be held in Zoo Advertising’s car park and this year, they are hoping to raise $36,000, which will go to raising funds for the Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout.

On the night, Public (bar in Manuka) will be there with a soup van, selling two kinds of soup ($5 a cup) and mulled wine ($5 a glass) to keep guests warm in the un-heated venue. The models in the show are local and will be styled by local hair/make-up artists and there will be six local designers styling the models, all of whom were part of Fashfest.

This event is free (please register for catering), but the aim is for those attending to donate generously. Seats and standing room is available, but it is first in, best dressed on the night.

This year, they are introducing a new core part of the show – The Blue Segment. Each stylist was given a tight brief for the show, to dress their models in Vinnies clothes while reflecting on their own philosophy as a designer to tell a story on the catwalk. One of the outfits has to be all blue, in honour of the important work Vinnie’s Blue Door drop-in centre performs.

When rummaging through the Vinnies warehouse, just what gems have the designers uncovered? Lots of fabulous and random clothes props: pair of ruby slippers, vintage school uniforms, a Napolese hat, a wire lampshade, a fluro hunting vest and even a wedding dress from the 80s.
