GourMay is back again this year and is bigger and better than ever! GourMay is Canberra’s culinary extravaganza, where various restaurants and cafes will showcase their best dishes every day in May. You will have the opportunity to not only learn about the creation of the dishes, but also participate in gourmet dining experiences, download your favourite recipes and win competitions.
With the popularity of the Paddock to plate concept in the culinary world, this year GourMay will be showcasing the use of fresh, local produce. There are some great farmers and fresh food markets located all round Canberra to ensure you have the very best produce to make your cooking more GourMay.
Canberra hosts the largest regional markets in the Southern Tablelands – The Capital Region Farmers Markets. Tantalise your taste buds with fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, seafood, cakes, condiments, meats, cheeses and more. The great thing about these markets, is it reflects the seasonal characteristics and diversity of the Canberra region. The Farmers Markets are held every Saturday morning from 7.30-11.30am at Exhibition Park on Flemington Road.
To experience one of Canberra’s most established markets, visit the Fyshwick Markets. Make the most of your lazy Sunday morning and enjoy a delicious brunch at one of the many cafes and delis while you browse for a wide range of fresh foods, as well as exquisite deli and bakery products. The Fyshwick Markets are open from Thursday to Sunday, 8am to 5.30pm at 12 Dalby St in Fyshwick.
If it is atmosphere, fresh produce and a wide organic selection you are after, the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets have just that. Synonymous with some of the finest selections of nutritious locally grown food in Canberra since 1976, Belconnen Fresh Food Markets offer a large range of speciality stores. Find ingredients here to make your family a fresh, delicious and healthy meal. The Belconnen Fresh Food Markets are open from Wednesday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm, and some specialty stores are open seven days a week.
For convenience and location, Simply Fresh in Westfield Woden and the Canberra Centre has become Canberra’s biggest fruit and vegetable operation. Simply Fresh has a salad bar, catering services, salad dressings, fresh peeled and sliced vegetables and fruit. Staff are on-hand to answer any questions you have.
