The light trail is Canberra’s newest and biggest edition. Traveling right through the heart of the city, we invite you to start at the first stop in Gungahlin and hop on and off to some of Canberra’s best pubs and bars on the trail. Each providing a unique and unforgettable experience, make use of the light trail while it’s free and enjoy a night of bar hopping through the city.
Our first stop, Young and Frisky. Only a two minute walk from the light rail stop in Gungahlin, the American inspired pub specialising in whisky is where you’ll find the tastiest fried chicken and plenty of drinks to suit. With special deals every night, why wouldn’t you want to hop on and off the light rail to try the whisky at Young and Frisky.
We jump off our next stop in Dickson and find ourselves at Highroad. Dedicated to paying homage to the raw and refined elements of Canberra this venue is open all day for a quick coffee – or day drinking, with a diverse range of wines and local and interstate beers.
Fancy a drink with panoramic views of the city? Our first stop in the heart of Canberra located on Northbourne Avenue on the rooftop of the Rex Hotel is The Howling Moon. Make your palate howl with pleasure with their mouth-watering cocktails and modern and classic bar snacks. If you find yourself there on a Saturday, you’ll even have the chance enjoy the coolest DJ’s Canberra has to offer.
It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t include one of Canberra’s most lively bars. Hopscotch, located on Lonsdale Street has one of the largest spaces in Braddon so grab a group of your friends and jump off the light trail and share a jug (or two), with the perfect atmosphere.
Hop off the light rail straight to the door of First Edition Restaurant and Bar. Located further down Northbourne Avenue at the Novotel Hotel, sit back and relax as you enjoy their speciality cocktails and carefully curated wines, spirits and beers. Happy Hour is every-day at First Edition, so for those finishing work in the city what better place to go for a drink.

Become curiouser and curiouser at this Alice in Wonderland inspired cocktail room. If by this point of the night your feeling like something sweet indulge in the White Rabbit Cocktail Room’s range of sweet treats or the ‘Wonderland’ cocktail with fresh strawberries and white chocolate liqueur.
Although yet to be open, Molly’s bar has a new sister called Amici. Share a cheese board and glass of red once you hop off the last stop of the light trail. Or simply pop in and takeaway a charcuterie board and a paired bottle of wine. Sign up to Amici’s mailing list to be the first to hear about their opening day!
Our final stop of the night. You won’t want to miss out on Bar Rochford in the Melbourne Building, one of Canberra’s oldest. Inspired by their location go back in time as the staff pulls from their record collection and enjoy the extensive range of wines and cocktails. Or if you’re not feeling a laid back vibe, head across the road to Mooseheads and experience a different kind of night.
