Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2016, Free Comic Book Day is designed to appeal to a broad range of readers, making it a great event for fans of all ages to find a comic they will love.
Each year comic book stores across the capital give away special edition comics that are printed just for Free Comic Book Day. These comics are printed by all the major comics publishers and feature all your favourite characters! But to make it fair for all the comic aficionados out there, there is a limit of four comics per person.
Free Comic Book Day will be taking over the following locations:
Impact Comics
16 Garema Place, Civic
The doors open at 9am, but make sure you get in earlier to secure a spot in line to be one of the first in the door!
There will be surprise goodies in limited quantities that Impact Comics will be slipping into show bags for the early birds.
There will be lots of people in cosplay and plenty of opportunities to get photos with The Southern Cross Garrison of the 501st Legion in attendance providing storm trooper supervision.
Players from the Canberra Roller Derby League will also be zipping about meeting fans and posing for photos.
Dee’s Comics
1/34-42 Cohen Street, Belconnen
Open 9am to 4pm, Dee’s Comics will be holding a 20 per cent off store-wide sale in celebration of Free Comic Book Day (no holds or lay-bys and latest shipment is not included).
Dee’s Comics will also be giving away next-visit discount vouchers to everyone who wears a costume on the day, so come dressed as your favourite comic book character!
Reload Bar and Games
38 Northbourne Avenue, Civic
The fine folks over at Reload Bar and Games also love comics and are getting excited about Free Comic Book Day. They will be holding a special Free Comic after party with some crazy comic drink prices.
Reload have teamed up with Impact Comics for the event, so if you bring your Impact Comics’ show bag you’ll get 2 for 1 comic themed cocktails from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
There will also be a mega game of Quiplash – basically like Cards Against Humanity but with way more people, using your own phone and the big projector.
If you are looking for something more family friendly check out board game restaurant Guild at Bailey’s Corner.
