Fresh off the back of their newly released single The Coward, brothers Jan and Josef Prasil, better known as Amistat, are heading to Canberra as part of their national tour.
The Prasil twins, who were born and raised in Germany, made the move to Australia in 2012 after constantly hearing great things from their Australian father.
“When we arrived, we were struggling to find work, so we picked up some musical instruments and started busking to survive,” explains Josef. “Jan really took to the guitar while I sung along. We realised pretty quickly that we had a unique sound and people wanted to listen to us back home, and that is how Amistat was formed.”
Their new single The Coward is an anthem for those struggling to live as their true selves. “It’s about knowing who you are deep inside, but not being able to let it out,” says Josef. “People are very fast with making assumptions and judging people based on what they look like, but they know little about what’s inside of that person.”
The video for the new single, directed by Kathleen Mary Lee, tells the story of a soldier who is denied the opportunity to go into battle, even though he is willing. “Jan and I love the concept of ‘one-shot’ videos, where the whole film clip is done in a single take,” says Josef. “It’s impossible really, trying to get it in one take, but we always like a challenge.”
Amistat will be joined by close friends Julian Swinnerton (cello) and Ryan Oliver (piano and percussion) for this run of shows.
