Kingston has the quirky vibe of a little town – it’s a place enjoy the ambience and the gustatory experiences. The area splits into two, the sprawling middle of the suburb and the elegant line along the foreshore. Providing ample choice of new tastes and old favourites.

Over in Little Brooklyn, Kingston’s hip spot for dinner and drinks, the steak is good and the jambalaya is fresh and stocked with prawns. Add a cider and some company to this exciting little bar and dining experience and enjoy. For a change of pace the band starts late stepping the fun up a notch and spilling out onto the pavement.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic (or in the corner of Green Square), The Durham is everything that an English pub should be. It’s got a traditional and has that distinctly lived-in vibe that regular cleaning just can’t scrub out (and we wouldn’t want it to). It’s homey and comfortable and brimming with craft beers, adding to the comfort and the unassuming joy of the charming English-style pub and beer garden.

The Kingston Hotel (‘The Kingo’ to locals) lets its connoisseurs cook their own steak to their satisfaction from the mere price of $9.50 with all other meals falling faithfully under $25.00. Separated into bistros and bars, patrons have a choice of their surroundings without mixing the differing options. Customers can expect all the classic pub fare – from beer battered chips and burgers, to their 400g Angus steak – without cleaning out their purse.

Or for more exotic choices, Saffron Mezze House is Kingston’s home of Lebanese and Moroccan cuisine. This venue is built for entertainment boasting live belly dancing on Saturday nights, adding a vibrant, jingly presence to the cultural eastern atmosphere. A world away and yet in the same suburb, Walt & Burley looks out to the water with pride and contentment. The industrial atmosphere surrounded by structures of metal and wood builds this corner of the strip up with old-world nostalgia housing new world food. Walking along the one sided street of restaurant fronts, looking out to the calm water of the lake, Kingston almost feels like Canberra’s beach town. Close enough for us! Delicious food, drinks and atmosphere, Kingston is a great place to hang out on the waterfront, beach or no beach.
