Folks, it’s time once again to flex your democratic muscles. After another year of extraordinary politics, this Saturday 7th September sees Australians head to the polls to cast their votes for Australia’s 44th Federal Parliament.
The traditional place to vote is your local school, with large sections of the community lining patiently to enter the polling booth. This year, the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House becomes a ’super-booth’ welcoming all Australians registered to vote.
The concept is simple. Rather than being restricted to allowing voters from its geographical electorate (Canberra), all Aussies can vote here on Saturday. Whether you’re from Christmas Island or Hobart, you’re more than welcome to join fellow voters to mark you ballot paper in this former centre of democracy.
The doors will be open for voting from 8.00am until 6.00pm and this forms the final part of MoAD’s Election Festival that has been running for the last six weeks. There will be a bunch of family activities for the day, and of, course, there will be the obligatory (read: compulsory) sausage sizzle for you to get a true taste of democracy.
If you’re a local, from out of town, or are playing host to visitors, head on down to the Parliamentary Triangle on Election Day 2013 this Saturday 7th September. We’ll see you there!
