The OutInCanberra ‘Favourite Face’ has been judged. Canberrans voted on their favourite face for the Myer Face of Canberra Racing competition. This year saw 50 contestants enter the competition, and the voting received the highest number of participants the competition had ever seen. 1813 votes were counted and the winner of Canberra’s favourite face went to local beauty, Ariel Ayers.
As Canberra’s favourite face, Ariel won instant inclusion to the top 10. The other 9 girls were judged by a race panel that assessed their style, class, energy and appropriateness for the prestigious position. The competition was judged at Preview Day, which was held at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday February 26th.
On the day the Myer Face of Canberra Racing competition went to Brittney McGlone. However, Ariel could not speak more highly of the experience, and says she was thankful for everyone’s votes and support. She sat down with us to answer a few questions about her experience.
Q: How does it feel to be the winner of the OutInCanberra Favourite Face award?
A: I’m very honoured to be people’s choice of 2012. I have never done anything like this before so it was very exciting getting the phone call telling me that I had won. I would really like to thank all the people that voted for me and the sponsors involved in supporting this event.
Q: Tell us about your experience entering the Myer Face of Canberra Racing and how it felt to make it into the top 10.
A: The experience I’ve had entering this competition has been amazing. Knowing that I had a secured place in the top 10 on preview day was a relief and I believe I enjoyed the experience of race day(preview day) even more because of this. I have met many lovely ladies in this competition and it was very hard to see them as my competitors. Overall both events were fun and the outfits, stunning.
Q: If you had been the overall winner, what could you have contributed to the racing culture in Canberra?
A: Being one of the younger participants of Canberra racing I could have a bought a fresh, more youthful look to the racing industry. Furthermore, being a uni student and working part time I definitely had the time to commit to this role. Due to my large social network I could also have bought in a new generation of younger race supporters.
Q: Why should other girls enter the competition next year?
A: It’s a great opportunity for girls to develop their confidence, style, elocution, public speaking and networking. I would recommend this competition for any girl who loves to socialise and who is genuinely interested in racing fashion. I will definitely be returning next year.
