Lennox Gardens will shimmer to life under the light of 2,000 candles as Japanese and Australian cultures unite at the 11th annual Canberra Nara Candle Festival. This year’s festival celebrates the 20th anniversary of Canberra’s sister city relationship with Nara, Japan.

Saturday’s event will feature additional lighting across the park, and activities which can be enjoyed by the whole family such as ikebana and drumming workshops, calligraphy, origami, lantern making, kite flying, martial arts and sumo wrestling demonstrations.

There will be an exciting line-up of Japanese entertainers which include sensational drumming ensemble Wadaiko Rindo, Australia’s Got Talent stars George Kamikawa and Noriko Tadano, Japanese country singer and guitarist Zoi, Shakuhachi and the Nara Citizens Group, and students from Nara University High School in Japan.

The ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher will be joined at the festival by the Ambassador of Japan, His Excellency Mr Yoshitaka Akimoto and the Mayor of Nara City, Mr Gen Nakagawa so you might spot them admiring the candles or even joining in on activities.

The Canberra Nara Candle Festival will be held in the Canberra Nara Peace Park in Lennox Gardens (behind Hyatt Hotel Canberra) from 4.30pm to 9pm on Saturday 26 October.

Parking is available in the Parliamentary zone, with a free shuttle bus to Canberra Nara Peace Park. Public parking is not available in the Hyatt Hotel car park.
