Boasting some of the best wine available by the glass to be found in Canberra, the newly opened Gryphons at the Griffith shops has begun a mighty venture.
Armed with an extensive wine list and gourmet pub food, Gryphons had their opening night on Thursday 23rd February and it went off with a bang. Owner Andrew Kenny was more than happy with the turn out, with more than 300 people showing up to show their support and check out the new bar and café.
“The response we have had has been absolutely fantastic” says Kenny.
“The kitchen has been doing a fantastic job and all I have heard is positive feedback from our customers.”
The atmosphere at Gryphons is relaxed and casual and has scenic northerly aspects overlooking the Griffith parklands.
Gryphons has something quite unique to offer in the Canberra beverage scene – Enomatic machines. These machines keep pricey bottles of champagne and wine (around $200 +) fresh for eight-10 weeks so that people can enjoy a drop to drink by the glass and this has already been extremely popular at Gryphons.
There are large screens to catch the excitement of live games on, as well as in-house entertainment.
The wine selection at Gryphons is extensive and their cellar downstairs is available for group wine tastings of between 10-14 people.
Another tummy satisfier is the food whipped up by chef Jamie Zaraza. The take-away gourmet pizzas are to die for. Sink your teeth into the Souvlaki Lamb pizza; marinated lamb topped with Spanish onion, tomato wedges, wild rocket and feta cheese finished with a swirl of greek-style yoghurt. Or try The Gryphon, Gryphons signature pizza; sliced chorizo, pepperoni, smoked ham, cabanossi, bacon, oven roasted tomato and red pepper.
If pizza isn’t really your thing, there is an extensive menu with dishes such as the veal parmigiana served with confit tomato, bocconcini and creamy polenta or try one of their famous steaks such as the 200g Eye Fillet served with beer battered chips or baked potato and your choice of topping.
Gryphons is open every day of the week from 7am for all those early morning coffee enthusiasts. And even better, they have their own coffee ordering system where you register your mobile number in their system and text through your order before you get there on the way to work!
