The call for projects for Art, Not Apart 2018 has just opened.

Showcasing the very best of the Canberra contemporary art scene, the festival has grown substantially year-on-year and is now entering its seventh instalment.

Art, Not Apart is a free festival held throughout Canberra, consisting of performances, exhibitions, installations, music, a street party, restaurants, cafes and after-parties.

The theme for the 2018 festival is Climax, and pieces that communicate elements of climate change, the intensity of today, and tipping points are billed to be the focus.

The festival will be spread across 25 individual venues within the NewActon Precinct and surrounds, including The Shine Dome and the NFSA. A year of programming on the Alinga Street Footbridge will also be a feature.

In a first for Art, Not Apart, the Australian Academy of Science is partnering with the festival for the Art as Science Communication curatorial thread, which aims to links artists to leading science projects, assisting scientists to change societal behaviour in ways they can see but not communicate.

Artists from all disciplines will share in $50,000 to get their project off the ground, with about 80 percent of this pool reserved for local and regional artists.

Artists are able to apply for funding, production support, program inclusion, curatorial support or all of the above.

Applications for funding amounts more than $2000 are highly competitive, so the team at Art, Not Apart recommend either applying for less or making sure your project is a sure-fire hit that aligns with the festival theme.

To apply to be involved in this amazing event, head to www.artnotapart.com/apply. Artist submissions will close at midnight on Wednesday 10 January. All applications will receive a response within 3 weeks of the closing date, allowing just over 2 months for the completion of projects.

Applicants are encouraged to email [email protected] with any questions they may have before submitting.
