Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. What better way to spoil that special person in your life than a trip around the world?
Put your wallet away – the world is coming to you this weekend as the 2015 National Multicultural Festival kicks into full swing! It’s your opportunity to treat yourselves to a romantic trip to see all the very best the world has to offer.
So, how do you do it? Here’s our suggested itinerary for a trips to all the global hotspots – right in the middle of Canberra.

Pre-Dinner Drink in Eastern Europe
It’s going to be warm, so grab yourself a refreshing beer! Some of the best in the world can be found in Eastern Europe, so head over towards Canberra Theatre and check out the Polish, Macedonian and Czech Republic tents.
If beer isn’t your thing, track down the Peruvian tents around the Garema Place Chessboard and surrounds. Treat yourselves to some Inca Kola. It’s yellow… but it’s delicious!
7.20pm
Entrée in Myanmar
One of the best-kept secrets of the Multi-Culti marinated chicken from the Burmese Karen tent. Plus, you’ll look like a well-informed foodie in front of your date!
Quiet and unassuming, a simple engagement with these lovely ladies will have you sampling the most succulent lemongrass chicken you have ever tasted. It’s a great way to start your feasting. You’ll soon find yourselves smiling as much as they do! The tent is typically found down on Akuna Street.
7.40pm
Main Course on the Mediterranean
Cross your fingers for the return of the Spanish sardines. Cooked fresh on the chargrill, these delicious fish go down very nicely with a cup of sangria. Usually, it’s the Spanish or Portuguese who put these on, so pretend your at an Iberian coastal village and get both your hands dirty down around

Take in a show
Bellydancing? Salsa? Greek dancing around a bunch of smashed plates? It’s all there on any of the eight stages that are scattered throughout the city. It’s a great chance to sit sown, chat with your love and absorb some culture without having to queue or weave through the crowd.

Dessert in Arabia and beyond
There’s nothing more traditionally exotic than the dessert sands of the Middle East You’ve let dinner settle, enjoyed a show and now it’s time to get the energy levels back up! Head over to the section between the Carousel and Bunda Street where you’ll see how much everyone from Cairo to Kabul loves its sweets. Seek out the treats including baklava, fairy floss and apple tea can be found, so grab your fill before heading off to…
9.00pm
Dancing, dancing, dancing!
The sun has gone down, now it’s time to heat things up. The biggest party is always at the African Village, where thumping beats fill the dance-floor is a whirl of energy and colour. Everyone is welcome to join in… and it seems like everyone aged from four to 80 does! You’ll find it just up from the fountain.
