Autumn racing in the Capital is all about the 43rd running of the Seppelt Black Opal Stakes at Thoroughbred Park on Sunday 8 March 2015 and excitement is in the air.
And now that the Black Opal has been upgraded to a Group 3, you can be guaranteed of an amazing day at the track with everything you’d expect and more!
For the racing enthusiasts Thoroughbred Park’s eight-race program is certainly the focus. This year’s programme includes:
-$275,000 Seppelt Black Opal Stakes,
-$200,000 tab.com.au Canberra Cup,
-$120,000 Mercedes-Benz (Canberra) National Sprint, and
-$120,000 Premier Racing Partnerships Canberra Guineas
Corporate Hospitality always sells out fast and bookings have now closed but you can enjoy the many other areas around course to mingle, sip champagne and have a flutter.
For those who have been lucky enough to get a ticket into the Seppelt Marquee, get ready for a Flemington Birdcage experience in the Capital! And the Silks Room and Rich Reward Room provide an awesome birds eye views of the track and public spaces. For future reference get in quick for these areas as tickets are limited.
Here’s a lucky tip: On Black Opal Stakes Day, Instagram or Twitter your race day photo using the @Thoroughbredpk instragram and Twitter account, with @seppeltwines and #blackopalstakes in the body of the message and you could be selected to win two tickets into the marquee that very afternoon. Feast on delicious canapes, sip vintage Salinger sparkling and relax to the DJ’s tunes. Good luck!
There will be plenty of food stalls and bars including the new XXXX Gold Bar located next to Catbird Lane and the horse-stalls and live entertainment for those who choose to wander the public areas of Thoroughbred Park. Always filled with the colour and noise of a day at the races, it’s a great place to take in the exciting atmosphere of the track
Of course, it wouldn’t be a day at the races without Fashions on the Field, and this year Myer is hosting the best-dressed ladies and gents on the catwalk come Sunday 8 March. The categories this year are Classic Ladies Racewear, Classic Mens Racewear and Millinery. Watch as the very best fashionistas outfits from local and national competitors are hand-picked from the crowd to take to the stage and strut their stuff in order to win thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.
