Summer love in a car park? No, it’s not in the back of a Camira, it’s dancing under the sizzling sun to a mammoth line-up of musical talent from around the globe.
The boys at Lexington Music haven’t forgotten about us. Post Foreshore Summer Festival and looking into ’08 this dynamic duo are presenting a live mash-up of hip-hop, funk, dance, electro and house acts at the Annual Trinity Block Party.
The event which also marks Trinity’s 7th Birthday is set to bring alive the bar’s car park on Saturday 12th January.
Always aiming to musically educate punters, Ryan and Laurence at Lexington Music are offering a great variety of musical styles set to satisfy everyone from the hip hop kids to the break beat bopping.
Melante from Germany and Aussie acts Dirty Laundry, Katalyst Sound System, Steve Lind and Wax Motif will have you dancing in your saturday best till the stars come up.
“Expect a load of fun in a car park, super soakers, short shorts, big sunglasses and everything else you have come to expect from a Lexington party,” Laurence from Lexington Music said.
One of Canberra’s most original party concepts, Block Party’s car park idea came to Laurence and Ryan in a dream last year. Well not quite a dream, but the idea was a natural progression for this party savvy duo.
“We both wanted to do something really different for Trinity’s birthday party in 2007. We came up with the idea of putting on Koolism and the plans escalated from moving him out to the car park, to just growing and growing into a fully fledged concept.”
A great time to show off our local talent, 8 piece live funk/hip hop soul infused act Casual Projects will be taking to the stage with new tracks from their upcoming album titled ‘No Rest’. The boys will also be touring the East Coast with their new tunes, but always aiming to please Canberra audiences, they’ll deliver the goods AKA shiny new stuff at Block Party first.
Also on the ‘we heart locals’ bill, Canberra’s folk-esque Andi & George band and Trinity’s resident Mick O’Rourke will be getting punters warmed up and funked out throughout the day.
With the day/night planned to end on a cracker Melente note, what’s next for the expected 2000 hyped up punters?
“Last year we had 1500 people with nothing to do at 12am, because due to noise restrictions we have to can the event at a particular time.”
Not wanting to disappoint, the boys from Lexington have invited UK faves Plump DJs as special guests to the Official ANU Bar After-Party in an insanely exciting and intimate performance. Expect the wicked Nu skool breaks and warped electronica that make them great, plus some more Malente moments.
