The fertile grounds of Pialligo Estate have given life to many ventures in recent months. In 2019 we visited the stunning farm on numerous occasions, among them the launch of Pialligo Fields and the Market Grill, both filling a void in the market we didn’t even know was there.
The orchards bounty has an emphasis on heirloom varieties for their timeless flavour including; peaches, nectarines, plums, cherries, pears, persimmon, quince, apples, figs and pomegranates. Mix that in with a credible establishment of Smokehouse products and goodies and you conclude that Canberra was overdue for the Farm Shop Café where locals can have access to some of the finest produce in the region.
You can find the Farm Shop Café, which has recently opened at The Plot, just down the road from the Estate at 12 Beltana Rd. Also on The Plot, an incredible kids’ sensory playground and The Possum Patch, a children’s event centre designed to reconnect kids with where their food comes from through parties, events and school holidays programs.

The Farm Shop Café showcases beautiful, seasonal produce in the Cafe’s brunch and lunch menus, so you can experience Pialligo day and night in a more casual way. The café is well stocked with full flavoured house products such as jams, relishes, chutneys, oils, wine and award-winning olive oil and smoked meats to create your own hamper.
For those headed in for some afternoon tea or Seven Miles coffee, Pialligo’s classic charcuterie can be snacked on at Farm Shop Café. You’ll feel wholesome biting into homemade cakes and sweet treats or stopping by for a leisurely brekkie with nourishing produce and organic eggs. Grab some lunch on-the-go from the hot and cold cabinets and enjoy every moment of paddock to plate experience, and even take some paddock goods home.
The market garden is farmed using organic practices. Fruit is picked daily in season and delivered to the chefs to create everyday fresh dining experiences. Pialligo Estate are doing everything they can closer to home, more often than not right from their own plot, yet you can find some non-estate delicacies offered at Farm Shop Café as well.
The culinary creative team have the power to dictate plantings while the seasons dictate the menu. This means, everything you taste from the veggies, herbs and flowers are cultivated, picked and delivered fresh to the kitchen. One thing you can be assured is that flavoursome and healthy produce is guaranteed when you get to feast on homegrown goodies.
On the whole, The Plot is bringing a community of leading businesses together to create a destination for people to make a day out of their visit. Alongside Farm Shop Café you’ll have access to homewares by Wren & Rabbit, jewellery, furniture and fashion accessories by Flamingo & Sass, with Bison Home about to take up residency in the coming weeks as well. Together, the stores will host regular markets to shine a spotlight on regional food, drinks and homewares with a focus of sustainability and locality. Stay tuned for more news coming about The Plot community and its members.
The grounds at Pialligo Estate have been producing food for Canberra since the 1820’s and there is no sign of them slowing down.
