Every year we get two legitimate excuses to buy new clothes, they’re called spring/summer and autumn/winter.. but in my book, that’s a painfully low number. So when these seasonal excuses tick round, I’m ready to shop, shop, shop!

Before making any rash purchase decisions, let’s take a closer look at the new season trends, because there’s nothing worse than having value closet space taken up by things we’ve decided are ‘not really our style’.

If you’re going to invest in spring fashion, here are three lust worthy trends this season that also win points for potential longevity (because our wallet likes that).

Women
1. Midnight Botanical
No surprises here, florals make a comeback for spring, this time with a new and improved sophisticated style. Gone are the days of bright colour popping flowers, this season think navy, deep reds, black and white.

2. Little league
Having never really gone away, sports inspired aesthetics is back but with a new twist. We’ve seen this look for many of fashion cycles but this season, it’s about luxe materials such as silk, metallic and mesh that emphasise femininity on this boyish trend. The result is alluring athletic wear that calls for heels, not sneakers.

3. Shoulder show off
While strapless dresses and tops aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, the subtle sexy alternative for the warmer months is ‘off the shoulder’. Defined by its sleeve features with peek-a-boo shoulders, this is a got-to trend that fashion bloggers and designers alike can’t seem to get enough of.

Men
1. Sneaker/ sandal with suit combo
Love ‘em or hate ‘em the old sandal and sock thing is cool this season and even if you don’t want to go as far as the sock combo, you can still rock the look. Slip on a pair of slides with a blazer and pant or short combo and voila! Prada’s got there next male model.

2. Short stuff
Guys, you’ve been warned. Start working on the thigh tan of yours because the short length is going up a notch this season. Best worn with clean-cut, almost formal looks, the new Bermuda short length brings the playful, sporty aesthetics that spring demands.

3. Washed denim
Ahhh, denim. When all other fashion forsakes us, you are there to keep us feeling at least a little bit stylish. If you want to be extra cool with your denim this season, think faded, washed and ripped- the kind of style that says, “what, this old thing?” whilst looking phenomenally fashionable.
