The Spring Racing Season is an exciting time for Australian fashion and is the perfect time to invest in your own style.
When selecting your outfit there are some very important guidelines to consider. However, the most important is to dress head-to-toe for the season and every detail must be considered. Begin with your choice of head wear and keep in mind your face shape, hair style and the look you wish to achieve – be it vintage, on-trend, contemporary or classic.

DO
Accessorise, accessorise, accessorise!
Head-to-toe dressing requires you to consider all aspects of your look from your head dress to a perfectly matched shoe and, of course, accessories such as statement jewellery, eye wear and an amazing clutch.
Think elegance
Don’t forget your look must be elegant and deemed ‘day wear’.
Look polished
Pay special attention to your makeup, hair style and nail polish (including toe polish).
Consider current trends
The racing season is an important time of year for showcasing great Australian fashion, so do consider incorporating current trends which complement your individual style. This season experiment with culottes, jungle prints and coordinated separates.
Dress for your body shape
Always make this a priority and ensure the fitting of your garments (yes this includes your head wear) is perfect.
DON’T
Dress for after 5.00pm
Even though the races is an excuse to dress up, it is not an excuse to wear your favourite night club mini or your evening gown to the racecourse.
Bare your midriff
Even though midriffs are one of this season’s hottest trends, baring your midriff will deny you entry to the races (at least in the ACT and VIC). In fact, you should avoid bearing too much skin all together – especially if you are considering entering Fashions on the Field.
Wear Stilletos
Avoid a skinny heel – a thick heel, platform or wedges are always best. Especially when standing on grass.
Wear a maxi
Save your maxi for the beach or cocktail parties.
Take your shoes off
Throughout the day, at the end of the day…ever. Even to change into flats! Do that in the bathroom ladies.
