The weather is looking good and so is this summer season’s sports. Fans of all athletic persuasions will find something to their liking in the next few months as a plethora of games, matches and clashes stretch and prepare for an exciting series of events.

The International Cricket season kicked off with a packed house at Manuka Oval for Australia v South Africa. It was an absolute run-fest with a thrilling result enjoyed by Canberra’s cricket fans and a nationwide television audience. Next cab off the rank is The Prime Minister’s XI against England on Wednesday 14 January. Remember what happened last time the English played here?

Baseball

Australia is hosting this year and as such automatically qualifies. The exciting news is that three games being hosted at Canberra Stadium. Countries comprising more than half the world’s population will be participating in this year’s finals. You can be sure that Canberra, and the matches we host (especially China!), will very much be the focus of international attention.

Football – A-League

Australia’s A-league football is well into its 10th season, and the hottest ticket in town, The Western Wanderers, simply can’t manage to find a win. Perth are leading the way, this season (with a great result from their W-League team as well). This is fast becoming Australia’s most-watched summer sport and this season looks no different given how the Hyundai A-league has grown throughout the last decade.

Lastly the Big Bash League Final, happening on Wednesday 28 January 2015, will be hosted in Canberra. Hooray! The 14,000 capacity at Manuka Oval prepares to fill up with Canberra’s growing population of cricketing fans. The opening match commences on the December, with the season continuing on through to the final at Manuka Oval in January. Tickets go on sale on the 28 October 2014.

With so much happening it’s hard to know what to watch this spring and coming summer. Whether at the game or watching from home this will be a hot season for all sports here in Canberra.
