While The Dock might be one of the latest venues to open down at Kingston Foreshore, don’t assume any sort of inexperience. This is a pub that comes with a well-oiled team that really knows how to make customers feel welcome and comfortable.
While this might be obvious thanks to the clever range of craft brews and local wines that acknowledges some of the best beer and wine producers from the region and beyond, it’s through the cleverly-conceived menu that you get a real feel for the fathoms of thought and consideration that have gone into determining what made the cut for the well-rounded menu prepared by Chef Jay Marc Prieto.
There are plenty of options to share, which is perfect for lazy afternoons spent soaking up the sun. For those looking to settle in the night, everything is on offer from fresh Sydney Rock oysters to pizzas or delicious burgers.
With the water only metres away, what better way to start than with a bucket of fresh King Tiger prawns? Served stacked-high in a champagne bucket, the succulent prawns need only the slightest squeeze of lemon and a quick dip in the Remoulade sauce to ensure their flavours leap forward. They’re great to get your hands into, and the perfect match for some champagne or sparkling wine.
Similarly finger-licking-good are the BBQ Pork Ribs. Fresh from the grill, they are another way to get messy in the most delectable way. Topped with a tomato-corn salsa and served with herbed chips, the sweetness of the corn plays beautifully with the smokiness of the American Baby Back ribs. There’s also a chef’s garden salad served with honey vinaigrette (so you can tell everyone you were at least a little bit good!).
Still, it’s hard top go past a classic Fish n Chips. At The Dock, the preferred fish is Barramundi, and customers are welcome to have it either grilled or fried. As you might expect, there’s a deliciously creamy tartare sauce as well – it’s hard to go past the classics.
The final choice to make is whether to match your fish with the chef’s salad or go all the way with the chips. Just try and guess what we did!
To finish, help yourself to something sweet with Fruit Trifle Floats (a take on the traditional trifle with Pavlova and an almond praline) or the Chocolate Bliss – a flourless chocolate torte with hazelnut jaconde, coffee buttercream, dark ganache and more. It’s as extraordinary as it sounds!
