There’s a reason why Marty McFly travelled forward in time to 2015 – we’re less than two weeks into the year and it’s already shaping up to be a big one!
Here are some things that are happening in Canberra over the next few months:
The PM’s XI
First up, the Prime Minister’s XI: On Wednesday, 14th January the PM’s XI will again face England’s international team at Manuka Oval. This annual match has become the number one summer sporting event for the ACT and is not to be missed! Tickets for the match are still available – visit Ticketek for more information.
Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema
The quintessential outdoor event of summer is coming back to Canberra this year. From 18 January to the 2 February, Ben & Jerry’s Openair Cinema will be running for your viewing pleasure. Get a group of friends together, pack a picnic, and head over to Patrick White Lawns, next to the National Library of Australia. It doesn’t get much better than relaxing on a blanket watching great film while the sun goes down over Lake Burley Griffin… unless, of course, there is ice cream available. And, lucky for us, there will be! As part of the weekly “Sundae Sessions” there will be free Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for all cinema-goers to help you cool down on those balmy evenings. Ticket’s will go on sale very soon, so keep your eyes on the Openair Cinemas website.
Dinner in the Dark
In March, Canberrans will have the opportunity to be a part of the Enlighten experience at “Dinner in the Dark”, hosted by the National Portrait Gallery. Chef Nick Whitehouse, the special guest for the evening, will serve what is sure to be a delicious three-course menu inspired by the exhibition “In the Flesh”. Throughout the meal, Nick will talk you through every aspect of the menu, from the ingredients to the techniques used to create the food on your plate. Dinner in the Dark is happening on the 7th of March and tickets are available on the Enlighten Canberra website.
Canberra Day in the Park
This year, why not celebrate Canberra’s 102nd birthday with the whole family? March is probably the most beautiful time of year in Canberra, so head down to Commonwealth Park on Canberra Day. You’ll find a jam-packed program of family-friendly entertainment such as face painting, jumping castles and a variety of amusement rides. Some popular local bands will also be performing and a wide range of food and drinks will be available on the day. This is a free event and will run from 2.00pm-7.00pm on Monday, 9 March. Click here for more info closer to the date.
The CBR100 Challenge
If you’ve declared 2015 the year to step outside of your comfort zone and challenge yourself, this one’s for you. It’s time to tick an item off your bucket list by completing the first ever CBR Challenge which is taking place on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March. The event will see teams of three tackle a 100km, 50km or 25km walk along the stunning new Centenary Trail.
